Examples of decorated furniture may include:

• 18th century parcel gilt furniture
• Fine paintings on wood substrate

The coloured prints had discoloured and flaked away from the substrate by repeated varnishing in its 250 year life. Gesso had suffered considerable damage in the blue japanned areas. The finished surface is shown below

A George III painted bow front commode. The timber and gesso ground had cracked and moved, damaging the paintings. The whole was dull and dirty with previous poor restoration.
